Hi SPE Members –

During my travels, members in some of the outlying areas of the world tell me about problems they have in getting JPT delivered to them. I wanted to take a moment to talk about what we’re doing to ensure delivery of JPT to every member.

• Hand-delivery of JPT–We hand-delivered more than 1,380 issues in June!
• Seeking private vendors who can provide the best service.
• Obtaining written confirmation from the vendors to track deliveries.

To further help us ensure the timely delivery, we are seeking JPT monitors. A JPT monitor would be responsible for notifying SPE via a simple email, when they receive their monthly issue of JPT. These monitors will help us be more proactive in identifying potential delivery problems.

A few alternate ways to read the latest issue of JPT:

• As soon as an issue is released, it is placed on www.SPE.org/publications.
• We have a mobile app!  The JPT app (http://bit.ly/M1FgTz)
• Depending on your section, print issues of JPT are available during the meetings.

Please join SPE in congratulating the 2012 SPE International Award recipients.  The SPE Board of Directors approved the 2012 International Award recipients at their recent meeting. Seventeen international award committees recommended these winners to the board because of their outstanding and significant technical, professional, and service contributions to SPE and the petroleum industry. The winners were chosen from a pool of first rate candidates. SPE President Ganesh Thakur will present the awards to the winners at ATCE in San Antonio Texas.

Richardson, Texas, USA (26 June 2012) – The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) has named Jeff Spath, vice president of industry affairs for Schlumberger Limited in Houston, as 2014 president. Spath will take office as president-elect of the 100,000-member international organization on 10 October 2012, at the close of SPE’s Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition in San Antonio, Texas, USA. The 2013 Unconventional Resources Conference and Exhibition (URCE) will be held 11-13 November 2013 in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. The conference, the first for SPE in the region, will provide an ideal opportunity for attendees to focus on the evolution of the unconventional resources sector internationally, to discuss technical and commercial innovations and best practices, and to allow participants to appreciate the diversity, opportunity and capacity for growth. NOTE: This fraudulent scheme is still an on-going issue for our organization and our members and your help is appreciated.

Over the last few days it has come to our attention that criminals are using SPE’s corporate name in an attempt to commit fraud on the public. To date, there have been numerous checks presented to banks for collections.  In each case, an individual receives a fraudulent check with SPE’s name as the payer, along with a San Francisco address. The individual is then asked to deposit the check, and forward funds to another person.

SPE is in no way involved in this fraud scheme. SPE has no San Francisco address, and would never request that a payee forward funds to anyone.

SPE has contacted its bank, and notified the proper authorities. If you receive an unexpected check from The Society of Petroleum Engineers, Inc. and are asked to in turn send money to someone else, please contact Cheryl Finnerty at 972-952-9424. DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, SEND MONEY TO ANYONE BASED ON THESE FRAUDULENT DOCUMENTS.

Richardson, Texas, USA, (January 17, 2012) – The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and Getenergy  have announced plans to join efforts to bring providers of education, training, and national workforce development to the global oil and gas industry through their events.

The unique partnership will see SPE play a role in Getenergy’s annual global meetings from June 2012 onwards.  Getenergy’s will bring its learning arena exhibitions and specialist knowledge of education and training for the upstream business to some of SPE’s leading global technology and engineering events in the coming 3 years.  Read more »
