University of Oklahoma Chapter hosts SPE Distinguished Lecturer

Some 50+ members of the University of Oklahoma SPE Student Chapter recently hosted 2003-2004 SPE Distinguished Lecturer Neal Nagel, who, “gave an exciting and informative presentation including aspects of rock mechanics, stresses around the wellbore, and well planning. Dr. Nagel showed simulations of rock stress and failure using a geomechanics simulation called FLAC3D. The main thing OU SPE was able to take away from this presentation was a greater appreciation and understanding of a problem that could potentially cost a company a lot of money,” according to Chapter Secretary Kyle Ray. Also on the agenda of the November meeting was discussion of the chapter’s outreach programs: Adopt-a-Child and the Sooner Elementary Engineering and Science Clubs.
