Penn State SPE participated, along with Pittsburgh SPE, in National Engineering Week at the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh, PA, 20-21 February. National Engineering Week includes a large recruiting/career day that takes place every year and is open to people of all ages. Both groups worked with elementary-aged kids up to adults. The young students were able to work with sand art and create their own oil reservoir.
This was done by layering differnt colors of sand and placing black paint between them to represent the oil. This was a huge hit and the kids enjoyed themselves, Penn State members also offered information about Petroleum Engineering, how to get involved and what it is all about. This was a great event for students, parents and industry.
