The China University of Petroleum, Beijing Student Chapter hosted two student workshops that focused on personal development, career planning, and the latest cutting-edge technology.
The first workshop held Nov. 28, with guest speaker James Wang from Cabot (also the YP liaison of SPE NCI Section) was titled, “My First Five-Year Plan after Graduation”, and gave the students an overview of the global and regional YP projects. Also, Charlie Zhong, a geologist from Anadarko China, shared his experience both working in a national oil company and an international oil company. Another guest speaker was Di Cao from Schlumberger, who has a background in both geology and human resource management. More than 100 student members participated in this workshop and had face-to-face communications with the guests. Moreover, student representatives from different organizations were invited, including AAPG Student Chapter and SEG Student Chapter of China University of Petroleum, Beijing, SPE Student Chapter of CUGB (China University of Geosciences, Beijing) and SPE Student Chapter of RIPED (Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration and Development).
The second workshop Dec. 18th was a technical lecture, with Jim McRae, the director of drilling department in Anadarko China, who presented “Horizontal Drilling and Completion in Bohai Bay.” He also introduced the technical achievements of Anadarko in this field.
In 2010, plans include inviting professionals from Anadarko China, ConocoPhillips China and Total to give more technical lectures at CUPB, such as petroleum geology, enhanced oil recovery, refinery and pipelining etc. By these means, the technical program will cover the upstream and downstream of the oil industry and attract students in different specialties.
