HORSEHEADS, New York, 15 November 2010 – The Society of Petroleum Engineers has established a new section in the United States in the Twin Tiers area of Northern Pennsylvania and Southern New York. The SPE Twin Tiers Section is the first new SPE section in the US since 2007 and was established to provide a resource for the Twin Tiers region and the rapidly growing Marcellus Shale development through community education, professional development and networking.
At this time, the Twin Tiers section consists of 32 members and it is actively looking for new members and to coordinate efforts with existing members. SPE membership includes engineers, scientists, technicians, managers, operators, educators and other professionals who work in the global upstream oil and gas industry, as well as student members. Student members are enrolled in petroleum engineering programs and related fields at universities around the world.
