Distinguished lecturer Dr. Hazim Abass of Saudi Aramco helped celebrate 50 years of the Distinguished Lecturer Program by speaking at Tyumen State Oil & Gas University. Dr. Abass is a graduate of Baghdad’s University of Oil & Gas and the Colorado School of Mines in Denver. He is now a leading petroleum engineer at Saudi Aramco. Dr. Abass holds 9 patents and has written 40 research articles. The student chapter enjoyed a lecture on the “Use and Misuse of Applied Rock Mechanics in Petroleum Engineering”. It was Dr. Abass’s first trip to Russia, and he was excited to share his experience of working in the petroleum industry. He worked at the Halliburton research center in Oklahoma and then moved to the Venezuela research center. The TSOGU student chapter was honored to have the opportunity to interact and gain the knowledge of someone with Dr. Abass’s experience.
