SPE held a workshop titled “Petroleum Reserves & Resources Estimation–PRMS Applications Guidelines Document” in Mexico City 25–26 September. 74 attendees from 9 countries learned the relevance and application of the new Petroleum Reserves & Resources Estimation (PRMS) Applications Document.

On November 1st, 2011, SPE launched through its website this document that represents the culmination of several efforts started since the publication of the “Petroleum Resources Management Systems (PRMS)” document in March 2007.

The SPE Oil and Gas Reserves Committee initiated an education and awareness campaign related to the relevance and application of these guidelines. This was achieved through successful workshops like the one in Mexico City, as well as, seminars, lectures, and other technical events.

Two training courses were also held before and after this workshop. The first course, “Managing Your Business Using PRMS (Petroleum Resources Management System),” taught by John Etherington, was Monday, 24 September, and had 16 attendees. The second, “Oil and Gas Reserves: The New SEC Reporting Rules,” was Thursday, 27 September, and John Lee instructed 22 attendees.
