SPE Student Chapter CUPB Holds a Technical Lecture

On October 14, the SPE Student Chapter China University of Petroleum Beijing (CUPB) held the technical lecture of “Water Quest”. Zhang Hongquan, an associate professor from Tulsa University was invited. During the 2-hour lecture Professor Zhang first analyzed the current situation of water resources in China and other areas of the world and put forward his research and acknowledgement on water use and saving. Based on the theory of water circulation, he proposed some creative views, such as improving the arid climate in the northeast China and revitalizing the Silk Road through water transfer. He then engaged in a lively conversation about water transfer and its feasibility with the students.

After that, Professor Zhang shared his latest patent “Overhead Receiver”. The new technology, which is used for exploration of gas hydrate, helps to solve the problem of high cost and difficulty of the submarine gas hydrate exploration.

The interactive session came last. The active communication between students and Professor Zhang warmed the atmosphere. After the lecture, Professor Zhang took pictures with the Executive Committee of SPE, and then they exchanged souvenirs.
