There is now a Gold Standard opportunity available to all student chapters. Each student chapter that submits their completed annual report by the 1 April deadline not only is eligible to compete for the Outstanding Student Chapter Award, but will also have an opportunity to achieve Gold Standard.

They have successfully formed several sub-committees while enduring a heavy workload, as well as modified and relaunched their spe.utt.org website. The SPE Student Chapter at University of Trinidad and Tobago held a field trip to TOFCO, where fabrication of offshore platforms performed, visiting the world famous Trinidad Pitch Lake.

The Canadian Section picked the Calgary Zoo as the site for their annual Volunteer Appreciation Night on 4 June 2009. After dinner, awards were presented recognizing service to the section during the past year.
