President’s Award for Section Excellence Recipients

The purpose of the SPE President’s Award For Section Excellence is to recognize SPE sections whose efforts in member programs, technology dissemination, and cooperation with other SPE sections distinguish them. Because the award recognizes exceptional merit in a number of areas, it is not required that an award be given every year; up to six awards may be given annually. Learn more.

Congratulations to SPE Student Chapter University of Ibadan, SPE Student Chapter of the Month for May!

Ibadan Student Chapter conquered obstacles such as lack of program funding, low availability of venues for the Catch Them Young (CTY) Program, and time interference with lectures. They succeeded in the production of SPE notebooks, member impression badges, and the inauguration of two new units (Technical/Maintenance and Health Unit, Safety, Security and Environment Unit). Rising above their obstacles they have been able to ensure all 33+ new students in the department are SPE student members. They have been able to purchase their own public address system, speakers, wireless microphones, amplifier system and a generator for power supply.

Their activities include: Catch Them Young and Quiz Competitions at 18 secondary schools; Ibadan Student Paper Contest; visiting and donating to the Ibadan Orphanage; participation at Student Technical Conference and Exhibition at University of Benin; sinking a manually operated hydraulic borehole for the people of Araromi Idowu Village; and participation at a career fair at Schlumberger.

They are steadily completing their goal of increasing awareness of SPE and exposing secondary school students to the petroleum engineering discipline.

Congratulations once again to SPE Student Chapter University of Ibadan for a job well done!
