SPE Mehran Student Chapter Hosts a One-Week Training Workshop

spe-teamSPE Mehran Student Chapter of Mehran University of Engineering & Technology recently held a one-week training workshop at the Makhdoom Daud Hall for students interested in petroleum engineering, mining engineering, and geology. Ambassador Lecturer Speaks to Rivers State Chapter

Prince Adagwe, Schlumberger, an SPE Ambassador Lecturer, spoke recently on the status of the worldwide petroleum industry to members of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology SPE Student Chapter. More than 90 students and guests attended. The Ambassador Lecturer program is designed to connect students with young professionals who are 35 years old or younger.

Petroleum Engineering Summer School (PESS) Holds Summer Session

PESS recently wrapped up two 5-day seminar sessions held in Dubrovnik, Croatia. PESS is as an academic program for advanced studies of the Inter-University Centre, Dubrovnik. The international seminars are organized by the Executive Director of PESS, a professor of the Petroleum Engineering Department, School of Mining, Geology & Petroleum Engineering at the University of Zagreb, and co-directors who are distinguished professors from the universities all over the world. Rajiv Gandhi Chapter Named Outstanding for July

gandhi_chapterSPE Student Members of the Rajiv Gandhi School of Engineering in Chennai, India hit the ground running, so to speak, in their first year as an SPE Student Chapter. In one month the chapter hosted a field trip for juniors and sophomores to help them understand the practical perspective of their studies; conducted a number of video presentations to help make learning more enjoyable and illustrative; launched the “SPE School,” an initiative to enhance the communication and leadership skills of students, and which will also act as an internal knowledge sharing forum; and launched a job seeker’s forum aimed at providing assistance to final year members to fine tune their job searching skills. Canadian Section YPs to Hear Program on BioSand Water Filtration

Young Professional members of the Canadian Section will hear a talk 25 June by Dr. David H. Manz, inventor and developer of the BioSand Water Filtration (BSF) system, which is proven to reduce gastrointestinal disease by greater than 60 percent. There are more than 300,000 BSF’s in use in more than 100 countries. Where use of traditional slow sand filtration is limited to treating high quality water supplies for medium to large communities the BSF technology is affordable and appropriate for use in the homes of the poorest families in developing countries to treat almost any water supply they have available.  Read more…

Calgary Zoo is Venue for Section Appreciation Night

The Canadian Section picked the Calgary Zoo as the site for their annual Volunteer Appreciation Night on 4 June 2009. After dinner, awards were presented recognizing service to the section during the past year.
