Congratulations to the first place winners of SPE’s regional student paper contests. These regional winners are now invited to participate in SPE’s International Student Paper Contest held during ATCE in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.

2013 SPE Nico van Wingen Fellowship Recipients Announced

Congratulations goes to Orhun Aydin and Mojtaba Shahri—2013 SPE Nico van Wingen Memorial Graduate Fellowship recipients. Candidates for the fellowship are current PhD students and active SPE Student Chapter members pursuing a career in academia. Students are nominated by the student chapter faculty advisor or department chair, and selected based on activities and contributions made in his or her research. Although the University of Cairo student chapter faced obstacles, they accomplished many of their goals during this academic year.

Congratulations to the Kazakh National Technical University for being named December Student Chapter of the Month. Located in Almaty, Kazakhstan this student chapter has had a very busy year.

Energy4me Educator Workshop Held for First Time in Canada

Energy4me hosted its first workshop in Canada at the Canadian Unconventional Resources Conference on 1 November 2012. Thirty-six Calgary-area educators put their energy IQ’s to the test in the day-long workshop as they heard from industry professionals, walked through an exhibit tour, and participated in hands-on experiments.

 

Chairman of German Section Reviews 2012 Student Technical Conference

Our 7th Student Technical Conference was held again in the historic setting of the German Oil Museum in Wietze on 18th and 19th October, 2012.

Attending were a diverse group of 55 students from bachelor to PhD level. Most of the students study petroleum engineering, but geosciences, mechanical engineering, and computer sciences were also represented. As in previous years, many nationalities were present with students from Norway, Denmark, Austria, Turkey, and Romania as well as from the German Universities of Freiberg, Clausthal, Braunschweig, and Göttingen.

 

Attend the International Conference on Developing Unconventional Oil and Gas Resources

Students, research scholars, and industry personnel are invited to attend the International Conference on Developing Unconventional Oil and Gas Resources organized by the Indian Institute of Technology Madras with the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the London School of Energy Studies. Colombian Section Shares Energy4me

The SPE Colombian Section, in conjunction with student chapters and support from the local industry, took the Energy4me program to the most populated island in the world: Santa Cruz del Islote.
