The Drilling Engineering Award of the Society of Petroleum Engineers recognizes outstanding achievement or contributions to the advancement of petroleum engineering in the area of drilling and completions technology. 

Criteria

The Drilling and Completions Award recognizes outstanding achievement or contributions to the advancement of petroleum engineering in the area of drilling and completions technology.

  • This technical discipline covers:
    • drilling equipment
    • operational environment
    • downhole operations
    • site operations
    • drilling design and analysis
    • drilling management
  • The candidate must be a living member of SPE
  • The death of a candidate after May 1 does not render them ineligible during that year; the award may be presented posthumously in this case.
  • The award may be presented to a group for truly outstanding achievements, but preference is given to individual awards
  • Recipients of the John Franklin Carll Award, Lester C. Uren Award, DeGolyer Distinguished Service Medal, or Anthony F. Lucas Gold Medal are not eligible for this award.
  • Current SPE Board of Directors, Drilling and Completions award committee members, and those who have served in these positions during the past 2 years are not eligible.
  • Candidates remain on the active consideration list for 3 years.
  • If a candidate is not selected during the 3-year active consideration cycle, they can be renominated the following year if all other eligibility requirements are met.
