The SPE Distinguished Achievement Award for Petroleum Engineering Faculty recognizes superiority in classroom teaching, excellence in research, significant contributions to the petroleum engineering profession and/or special effectiveness in advising and guiding students. Nominations for a faculty member must be submitted by the department head/dean of a petroleum engineering or technology school.
Criteria
The Distinguished Achievement Award for Petroleum Engineering Faculty recognizes superior teaching, excellence in research, significant contributions to the petroleum engineering profession, and/or special effectiveness in advising and guiding students.
- One nomination from the department head/dean may be submitted for a faculty member in a petroleum engineering or technology school as defined and listed in the current SPE publication Petroleum Engineering and Technology Schools.
- The candidate must be a living member of SPE.
- The death of a candidate after May 1 does not render them ineligible during that year; the award may be presented posthumously in this case.
- SPE members may only be selected for this award once.
- Current SPE Board of Directors, Distinguished Achievement Award for Petroleum Engineering Faculty committee members and those who have served in these positions during the past 2 years are not eligible.
- If a candidate is not selected in a given year, they may be re-nominated in subsequent years if all other eligibility requirements are met.
