Criteria
The SPE Distinguished Service Award recognizes contributions to the Society of Petroleum Engineers that exhibit such exceptional devotion of time, effort, thought, and action as to set them apart from other contributions and thereby create an indebtedness of the Society to the contributor.
- The candidate must be a living member of SPE
- The death of a candidate after May 1 does not render them ineligible during that year; the award may be presented posthumously in this case.
- An individual whose service consists solely of the act of funding or endowing the Society is not eligible.
- Recipients of the DeGolyer Distinguished Service Medal are not eligible for the SPE Distinguished Service Award.
- Current SPE Board of Directors, Distinguished Service award committee members and those who have served in these positions during the past 2 years are not eligible.
- Candidates remain on the active consideration list for 3 years.
- If a candidate is not selected during the 3-year active consideration cycle, they can be re-nominated the following year if all other eligibility requirements are met.
