Honorary Members

Nominate | Recipients | Other awards

Honorary Membership is the highest honor that SPE presents to an individual. It is limited to 0.1% of the SPE total membership. This elite group represents those individuals who have given outstanding service to SPE and/or who have demonstrated distinguished scientific or engineering achievements in the fields within the technical scope of SPE. This honor may be presented to a non-member.

Criteria

According to a resolution passed in November 1941 by the AIME Board of Directors, Honorary Membership may be awarded from time to time in appreciation of outstanding service to the Institute or in recognition of distinguished scientific or engineering achievement in fields embracing the activities of the Institute.

  • The candidate does not have to be a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers
  • Candidates for Honorary Membership usually are:
    • SPE members who are outstanding in their fields or who have performed particularly noteworthy service to the petroleum engineering, mineral resources, or overall engineering profession
    • Individuals whose technical and/or professional contributions are deemed particularly outstanding.
  • Candidates remain on the active consideration list for 3 years
  • If a candidate is not selected during the 3 year active consideration cycle, they can be re-nominated the following year if all other eligibility requirements are met.
