Regional Technical Awards Criteria
The SPE Regional Technical Awards acknowledge exceptional contributions to the Society of Petroleum Engineers at the section or regional level and recognize singular devotion of time and effort to the programs and development of technical expertise in one of the following eight disciplines: Completions Optimization and Technology; Drilling Engineering; Formation Evaluation; Health, Safety, Social Responsibility and Environment and ; Management and Information; Production and Operations; Projects, Facilities and Construction; and Reservoir Description and Dynamics.
Each award is presented on recommendation of a Regional Technical Awards Committee appointed by the Regional Director based on nominations received from section leaders within the region. The nominations should also be reviewed by the appropriate SPE Technical Director for that discipline. The award is a plaque, which includes the name of the recipient, the year of the award presentation, and the citation accompanying the award specific to the individual's contribution to that technical discipline within the region.
The importance of each award will be maintained by issuance only to individuals whose contributions to the technology stand out sharply. Further, the Regional Director has the responsibility to nominate only individuals whose contribution advances the discipline. No more than one award in each discipline may be made annually in each region.
The award is presented at an SPE section, region, or topical meeting as determined by the Regional Director.
Recipients of the Regional Technical Awards will also automatically be included as candidates for the Society-wide technical awards the following year.
Eligibility
Recipients of any of the following SPE-wide awards are not eligible for the Regional Technical Awards:
- SPE Formation Evaluation Award
- SPE Drilling and Completions Award

- SPE Facilities and Construction Award

one year and as noted above.
Recipients must be willing to personally receive the award at the site selected by the Regional Director. The death of a person subsequent to his selection as an award recipient by the Regional Director or Award Committee does not render that person ineligible to receive the award, and presentation of the award will be made posthumously as indicated by the SPE Regional Director.
