Regional Outstanding Young Member Award Criteria
The Award
The Regional Outstanding Young Member Award recognizes contributions and leadership to the public and the community, with respect to local custom, as well as to the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the profession of petroleum engineering, or the petroleum industry within the region. It is intended to encourage interests among the young members of the Society that are broader than the profession, and no award shall be presented solely on the basis of a candidate's contribution to the Society, the profession of petroleum engineering, or the petroleum industry.
The award will be presented on recommendation of a regional Outstanding Young Member Award Committee appointed by the Regional Director based on nominations received from section leaders within the region. The award is a plaque engraved with the name of the recipient, the year in which the award is presented, and a citation stating the reason for giving the award.
The importance of this award will be maintained by issuance only to individuals whose contributions stand out sharply, given their age and level of participation in the Society and/or community. Each region may make only one Regional Outstanding Young Member Award each year.
The award will be presented at an SPE section, region, or topical meeting as determined by the Regional Director.
Eligibility
Any member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers in good standing and 35 years of age or under during the year of presentation of the award is eligible to receive the award. The candidate cannot be a previous winner of the SPE Young Member Outstanding Service Award, but by way of this nomination would be automatically under consideration for the Society award the following year if he/she still meets the age and award criteria.
A candidate must be living and able to receive the award at the time and place agreed upon. However, the death of a candidate subsequent to 1 May does not render them ineligible during that year, and if duly selected for the award, the presentation will be made posthumously in accordance with special procedures to be prescribed by the SPE Regional Director.
Anyone residing outside of the region for more than one year is not eligible for this award.
