RICHARDSON, Texas (12 April 2007) -- Internet users can now search for and purchase documents from multiple societies in a single transaction by using OnePetro.org, a new online library offering more than 60,000 technical papers covering the upstream oil and gas industry, operated by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) on behalf of the participating societies.

In addition to SPE, current participants include American Rock Mechanics Association (ARMA), NACE International (corrosion engineers), Society of Petrophysicists and Well Log Analysts (SPWLA), and World Petroleum Council (WPC). OnePetro offers the first online availability of ARMA and WPC documents.

"The upstream industry has been asking for a single place to search for and download documents, and this is the first aggregate library. OnePetro was built with funding from the SPE Foundation to provide a major new technical resource for the oil and gas industry. We expect to continually expand the collection by adding societies and their papers. SPE is pleased to operate the library for the participants," said Mark Rubin, SPE executive director.

Pierce Riemer, executive director of WPC, added, "OnePetro provides the industry with a convenient and time-saving new research tool that allows the user to customize a search of individual society libraries or to search across all to find new resources, such as the WPC papers, which will be accessible online for the first time."

Currently, individuals can purchase papers using a credit card, and OnePetro plans to offer corporate subscriptions beginning in 2008.

OnePetro is available at http://www.onepetro.org.
