Forum Series

For 40 years, the SPE Forum Series has brought industry experts together to shape the future of technology development. Past forums on topics like horizontal drilling, smart wells, real-time optimization, and produced water management contributed to new developments and innovations in use today. Forums differ from workshops in that they focus on tomorrow’s problems and the technologies that will be needed 5 or 10 years from now rather than technology being applied today.

Forums maximize discussion and the exchange of new ideas. Attendance is limited to about 75 participants. Forums participants are industry innovators who have the job of leading technology development within their organizations. Sessions are off-the-record, with no written papers or recordings. Extensive note-taking is discouraged. Forums are held in informal, relaxed settings with breaks for one-on-one networking. Participants are selected from applications based on their expertise, experience, and ability to contribute to discussions.

What participants say about the value of SPE Forums

"The Forum Series has provided me with an opportunity to step away from daily obligations and effectively focus for several days on a topic that directly relates to my work. The collaborative environment is enriching. You’re surrounded with peers who share your same interests within their organizations."

Ron Hinn, Knowledge Management Lead, Worldwide Engineering & Technical Services, Occidental Oil and Gas Corp.

"If a professional is really interested in understanding in great breadth and depth a particular topic, SPE Forums can achieve that. Even for professionals with long exposure through direct experience and contribution, the gain is invaluable."

George Vassilellis, Senior Technical Adviser, Gaffney, Cline & Assocs.

"SPE Forums keep me on top of my game for many years after they occur, more than any other industry event. Attending Forums has allowed me to remain what I am and have been for more than 20 years—a nonconventional thinker."

Frederic Santarelli, Technical Director, Oilfield Geomechanics Intl. A/S.
