Professional Networks

SPE has for several years offered members the opportunity to participate in a variety of Technical Interest Groups (TIGs). TIGs connect SPE members interested in common technical topics. SPE members have expressed interest in similar groups for E&P professionals with common nontechnical interests—e.g., women, minorities, young professionals, retirees, consultants. To address this interest, the SPE Board of Directors has established a nontechnical counterpart to TIGs—Professional Networks (PNs).

Scope

PNs are groups of SPE members working in oil and gas exploration or production, aligned by common professional interests, who come together in an electronic community to share information and ideas, discuss topics of interest, and answer questions posed by other community members.

Structure

Like TIGs, participation in PNs is limited to SPE members. PNs are inclusive and are open to any SPE member who wants to support the network's mission, vision, and objectives. PNs support the network members, SPE, and the E&P industry as a whole.

Human Resources Network

The Human Resources Network provides an open forum and enabler for SPE members to exchange knowledge and thoughts related to the primary asset of the industry: its people. By providing a platform for sharing ideas on development, leadership, recruitment, talents/skills, and healthy work environment, the network hopes to accomplish the following:

  • Raise HR awareness among SPE members
  • Promote professionalism, ethics, and values of common human practices
  • Provide the industry with indices that measure the level of satisfaction about people and work environment
  • Become a pool to enrich SPE members with industry HR talents, experiences, best practices and lessons learned

Petroleum Engineering Educators Network

This PN's objective is to develop a better joint understanding of the industry's training needs and how academia, in partnership with industry, the service sector, and government, can help fill those needs. It's discussion will focus on the evolving roles of academia, industry, the service sector, government, and SPE in education. One of the goals of this PN is to strengthen industry/education/government partnerships to develop the people and technology the industry will need in the 21st Century.
Chair: Erwin Kroemer, ExxonMobil

Women’s Network

The goal of this network is to facilitate networking amongst female members of SPE, who could benefit from sharing experiences and insights on gender-related career issues. While the network will provide a moderated web discussion on women’s career and work-family balance issues, some issues may be too sensitive to discuss in an open forum. The Women’s Network may also create a website or referral system to enable members to contact other members who are willing to provide individual advice on various topics. The PN may also consider organizing special sessions in conjunction with SPE meetings.
Chair: Carole Fleming, ChevronTexaco

Young Professionals (YP)

This PN has been created to engage a new generation of members in SPE activities and allow them to discuss ideas, events and best practices for the future of SPE and the industry. YEPP will enable young professionals to function as an international team, maximizing the impact of local initiatives while also creating international events to serve the needs of todays young, global members.
Co-chairs: John Donachie, Schlumberger and Andrew Lambert, Landmark Graphics
