Drilling clean-up technologies showcased at recent expo

- MI-Swaco Environmental Solutions' latest cleaning technologies for drilling operations were on display on 24 April at the company's Environmental Solution Expo 2008. Nearly 400 attendees from various operating companies were expected for the showcase event, which was held in the outside parking area of the company's corporate headquarters in Houston.

New gridding editor makes contour mapping easier

- While contour maps of oil and gas prospects are ubiquitous in the drilling industry, they are also notoriously difficult to edit and manipulate. A new tool called Grid Editor from Seismic Micro-Technology (SMT) aims to change that, by eliminating tedious single-contour editing and allowing the user to focus on overall structure.

Sakhalin extended-reach well a new world's record

- ExxonMobil has broken its own world record for extended-reach drilling. The new record at the Sakhalin-1 oil project on Russia's east coast was for an offshore well in the Chayvo field, drilled from shore at a distance of nearly 7 miles (11 km).
