Drilling clean-up technologies showcased at recent expo

- MI-Swaco Environmental Solutions' latest cleaning technologies for drilling operations were on display on 24 April at the company's Environmental Solution Expo 2008. Nearly 400 attendees from various operating companies were expected for the showcase event, which was held in the outside parking area of the company's corporate headquarters in Houston.

Oil-shale extraction technology has a new owner

- As a long-term petroleum source, oil-shale reserves are vast but remain elusive. Oil-services giant Schlumberger is aiming to change that with the recent purchase of a radio-frequency (RF)/critical-fluid (CF) extraction technology that unlocks this vast resource and brings it to the surface in a cost-effective and environmentally sound manner.

New technology offers profitable, holistic approach to oil-spill cleanup

- Oil-spill remediation is typically a messy and costly endeavor, but a novel technology promises to make the process clean, quick and profitable. MOP Environmental Solutions' Maximum Oil Pickup (MOP) technology cleans up both onshore and offshore spills, and allows the operator to recover nearly all the oil for further processing.

New sharing website aims for "Step Change" in asset integrity

- A new program to improve asset integrity on offshore installations in the North Sea has launched with the creation of a unique data-sharing website. The UK-based partnership Step Change in Safety says that its new asset-integrity site will help achieve the goal of making the UK oil and gas industry the world's safest by 2010.
