  • Risk management for deepwater projects receives OTC focus
    • 08 May
    • -
    • Risk management from both an operator and service provider perspective was the focus of a special press conference held on Tuesday, 6 May at the 2008 Offshore Technology Conference (OTC). The multidisciplinary panel may have represented different parties, but all agreed that the unprecedented risks facing deepwater projects require a targeted team approach to minimize [...]
  • Novel processor accelerates compute-intensive simulations
    • 05 May
    • -
    • Complex reservoir and seismic-data simulations are commonplace in today's oil and gas exploration sector, and it is equally common to wait weeks for an answer. This is set to change with Acceleware's solution based on graphics processing unit (GPU) technology, which reportedly accelerates processing of large data sets while also providing significant power savings.
  • New handheld data reader accelerates corrosion analysis
    • 28 April
    • -
    • Corrosion engineers now have a more efficient route to collecting and analyzing field corrosion data. The new Rohrback Cosasco Systems (RCS) Checkmate DL, a portable handheld instrument that remotely reads corrosion data from field data loggers or remote data collectors (RDCs), allows engineers to quickly collect and transfer corrosion data for analysis and graphing.
  • New gridding editor makes contour mapping easier
    • 09 April
    • -
    • While contour maps of oil and gas prospects are ubiquitous in the drilling industry, they are also notoriously difficult to edit and manipulate. A new tool called Grid Editor from Seismic Micro-Technology (SMT) aims to change that, by eliminating tedious single-contour editing and allowing the user to focus on overall structure.
  • New Center for Technology Innovation opens in Houston
    • 07 April
    • -
    • Baker Hughes recently held an open house for its new Center for Technology Innovation (CTI) in Houston. The USD 42-million facility promises to be the launching pad for the next generation of technologies for challenging production environments.
  • Industry leaders agree on potential of intelligent energy
    • 28 February
    • -
    • Collaboration was on the minds of two industry leaders this week at SPE's Intelligent Energy Conference in Amsterdam. Helge Lund, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of StatoilHydro, and Andrew Gould, chairman and CEO of Schlumberger, shared their thoughts on the need for greater cooperation among companies and industries if digital technologies are to be [...]
