William Faubel, SPE, was appointed President of Baker Atlas, and Charles Wolley, SPE, was named President of Centrilift. Before this appointment, Faubel had served as President of Centrilift since 2001. Wolley had been Vice President of Manufacturing and Technology for the company.

Bruce Gilman, SPE, was appointed to the Board of Directors for Deep Marine Technology. His career, spanning 4 decades, has been focused on subsea intervention engineering and operations. Gilman has served as President of both Perry Offshore and Oceaneering Intl., President and Founder of Sonat Subsea Services, and President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Sonsub Inc.

Phillip Gobe, SPE, was elected to the Board of Directors of Energy Partners. Gobe became Chief Operating Officer (COO) in 2004 and was named President in 2005. Before joining Energy Partners, he worked for Nuevo Energy as COO.

Bill Hannes, SPE, was promoted to Executive Vice President–Worldwide Business Development for Pioneer Natural Resources. Jay Still was promoted to Executive Vice President–Western Div., and Denny Bullard was named Vice President–Engineering and Development. Having earned a BS degree in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M U., Hannes joined the company in 1997, serving most recently as Vice President–Engineering and Development. Still, who earned a BS degree in mechanical engineering from Texas A&M U. and an MBA degree from Loyola U., joined Pioneer in 1995. Bullard, who earned a BS degree in petroleum engineering from Texas A&M U., joined Pioneer in 1991.

Tracy Krohn, SPE, was named by Ernst and Young as 2005 Entrepreneur of the Year in the Distribution/Manufacturing/Security category. Krohn, President and CEO of W&T Offshore, was recognized for founding the company and building it over 20 years into a publicly held firm with a market capitalization of U.S. $1 billion.

Graham Mensa-Wilmot, SPE, was appointed Vice President of Engineering and Research–PDC Business Unit for Varel Intl. With 20 years of experience in drilling research and technology development, he earned an MS degree in drilling engineering from Romania U. of Petroleum and Gas.

James Metcalf, SPE, was named Vice President–Drilling for Newfield Exploration. Other Newfield appointments included Mark Spicer, SPE, to Vice President–IT and James Zernell, SPE, to Vice President–Production. Metcalf, who earned a BS degree in petroleum engineering from Marietta College, Ohio, had served as Drilling Manager. Spicer, who earned BS degrees in geological and petroleum engineering from the New Mexico Inst. of Mining and Technology, had been IT Manager, and Zernell, who earned a BS degree in petroleum engineering from Pennsylvania State U., had been Production Manager.

Kevin Moore, SPE, was named President of Kuwait Foreign Petroleum Exploration Co. (KUFPEC) Indonesia Ltd. Before this appointment, he was Vice President of Operations for KUFPEC Indonesia. Moore earned a BS degree in petroleum engineering from the U. of Missouri-Rolla and an MBA degree from the U. of Houston.

Anirudha Pangarkar, SPE, was named Vice President–Operations of Premium Drilling. Before this appointment, he was Marketing and Contracts Manager for Noble Drilling and General Manager of Schlumberger Drilling Services. Pangarkar earned a degree in mechanical engineering from Maharaja Sayajirao U., India, and an MBA degree from the Sloan School of Management, Massachusetts Inst. of Technology.

Charles Williamson, SPE, who was Executive Vice President, a past Chairman of the Board, and CEO, retired from Unocal. Williamson joined Unocal as a research scientist in 1977. In 1983, he was posted to London as Unocal’s chief geologist for the U.K. and Ireland, and in 1986, he was named Exploration Manager for Unocal Netherlands. In 1989, he became Vice President–Exploration for Unocal Thailand. Williamson was named Vice President–Technology in 1992 and was appointed CEO of Unocal Corp. in 2001. He served on the Board of Directors during 2000–05 and was Chairman of the Board during 2001–05.

Charles Hutchinson Jr., SPE, died 5 December 2005 in Sugar Land, Texas. An SPE Distinguished Member and Legion of Honor Member, he served as 1975–76 SPE President and as 1977–80 SPE Foundation President, and he was active as an SPE Foundation Trustee. Hutchinson served as Chairperson of the Transactions Editorial Committee in 1962, General Chairperson of the 1974 SPE Annual Meeting, and Chairman of the Ad Hoc Committee on Scholarships. In 1968, he was an SPE/AAPG Distinguished Lecturer, and in 1970, he was the SPE representative on the Executive Committee of the Offshore Technology Conference. From 1971 to 1978, Hutchinson served as an SPE Director representing the Gulf Coast Section.

Hutchinson earned two BS degrees (one in chemical engineering and another in electrical engineering) and two MS degrees (one in petroleum engineering and one in chemical engineering) from the U. of Colorado and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In 1949, he began his career as a petroleum engineer with Atlantic Richfield, moving into management as Manager of Intl. Exploration and District Manager of South and East Texas. Hutchinson later became President and owner of MC Resources, an independent oil exploration company.
