Lyn Arscott, SPE, and Paul Willhite, SPE, have been elected to the Natl. Academy of Engineering. Election to the Academy is among the highest professional distinctions accorded to an engineer. Arscott, a management consultant, was honored for making health, safety, environmental protection, and sustainable development higher priorities in the oil industry. Willhite, Ross H. Forney Distinguished Professor and Chair Co-Director of the Tertiary Oil Recovery Project, and Co-Director of the U. of Kansas Energy Research Center, was honored for research, technology, and education outreach in tertiary oil-recovery processes.

Kevin Brady, SPE, was promoted to Vice President–Sales and Marketing for Knowledge Systems. His 18 years of industry experience has included sales and mar-ket-ing, project management, research and engineering, and field operations. Brady earned a BS degree in geology from Louisiana State U. and an MBA degree in marketing from the U. of Houston.

Bruce Crager, SPE, was named Chief Executive Officer of INTEC Engineering. Before this appointment, he was President of ABB Offshore Systems. Crager earned a BS degree in Ocean Engineering from Texas A&M U. at College Station and an MBA degree from the U. of Houston.

Bill Farrar, SPE, will head the first regional office of Reef Exploration, which will be located in Houston. He earned a BS degree in petroleum engineering from the U. of Missouri at Rolla and has 36 years of experience in oil and gas production operations and reservoir-study projects.

Greg Galloway, SPE, joined Particle Drilling Technologies as Vice President–Operations. Before this appointment, he was Global Product Line Manager for Weatherford Intl., and has more than 26 years’ experience relevant to particle drilling.

Florian Hollaender, SPE, was named to the Engineers Week Foundation “New Faces in Engineering,” a group that reflects the excitement and vigor of the profession. Hollaender is a Reservoir Engineer for Schlumberger Oilfield Services in Abu Dhabi, and is involved in planning of well test data acquisition and interpretation.

Ruben Juanes, SPE, was named Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering at the U. of Texas at Austin. Before this appointment, he was Acting Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Petroleum Engineering at Stanford U. Juanes’ research is directed toward the understanding, modeling, simulation, and quantitative prediction of complex geophysical systems, with special application to petroleum reservoir engineering and groundwater hydrology.

Ron Mayo, SPE, was named Gulf Coast Regional Manager for Varel Intl. Before this appointment, he held a number of sales management positions with Smith Bits.

Dean McPhearson, SPE, received an American Petroleum Inst. Meritorious Service Award. He is leader of Baker Hughes Inc.’s business development team in New Orleans. McPhearson has been active in a number of industry associations, has served on numerous SPE committees, and was President of the SPE Delta Section. He was recently named to the Intl. Soc. of Petroleum Engineers Board of Directors. McPhearson studied at Louisiana Tech U. and earned an MS degree in geology from Northeast Louisiana U.

Roger Myers, SPE, was named Manager–Technical Services for Universal Well Services. Before this appointment, he was Northeast Region Technical Manager for BJ Services. Myers earned a BS degree in petroleum and natural gas engineering from Pennsylvania State U. and has more than 26 years of industry experience.

Robert Oberst, SPE, was appointed to the Miller and Lents Board of Directors and named Senior Vice President. He worked for Mobil Oil before joining Miller and Lents in 1999. Oberst earned a BS degree in geological engineering from the U. of North Dakota and an MS degree in petroleum engineering from the U. of Oklahoma.

Linda Silinsky, SPE, was named Senior Vice President of Ashen & Assocs., a global executive energy search firm. With more than 25 years of industry experience with Dresser Industries and Schlumberger, she has held executive communications positions throughout her career and before this appointment was Director of Public Affairs for Schlumberger Ltd. Silinsky is a Board Member of the Natl. Energy Education Development Project.

Brian Windham, SPE, received a license from the Texas Board of Professional Engineers. He joined Platt, Sparks and Assocs. as a consulting petroleum engineer in 2002.
