Regional Update

AFRICA

  • Operator Total, Eni, and Esso E&P announced an oil discovery on the Aurige Nord Marine 1 exploration well, located 180 km southwest of Pointe-Noire in the Republic of Congo. The well tested at 4,970 BOPD.

  • Operator FirstAfrica Oil encountered a 165-ft oil column on the East Orovinyare-4 well located 13 km offshore Gabon in 28 m of water.

ASIA

  • China Natl. Offshore Oil Corp. encountered oil and gas pay in the BZ28-2S-1 field in the Yellow Mouth Sag in Bohai Bay. The well tested at 1,900 BOPD and 2 MMcf/D of gas. The company also discovered a new field in Bohai Bay that tested at 760 BOPD.

  • Daewoo Intl., Korea Gas Corp., Oil and Natural Gas Corp., and GAIL (India) found gas on the Mya Test Well No. 1 in Block A-3 in Myanmar. The Mya deposit is estimated to contain 2 Tcf of gas.

  • Petronas reported a gas find off the coast of eastern Sarawak state in Malaysia. The PC4-1 exploration well encountered a 630-m gas column. The well is located approximately 108 km northwest of Miri.

  • Lukoil reported a discovery in the Vladimir Filanovsky field, located in the Severny licensed area in the northern part of the Caspian Sea. The primary well, Yuzhno-Rakushechnaya, drilled 220 km from Astrakhan, tested at 800 tonne/d of low-sulfur oil. Reserves of the field are estimated at 600 million bbl of oil and 1.2 Tcf of gas.

  • Kuwait Natl. Oil Co. found a gas deposit in the Donghae 6-1 sector of the East Sea. Located 75 km southeast of the city of Ulsan, the deposit is estimated to hold 10 Bcf of gas.

  • Operator Premier Oil, Kufpec, Amerada Hess, and Petronas discovered gas on the Macan Tutul-1 exploration well in the Natuna Sea Block A license. The well is located 12 km southeast of the Anoa field.

  • Soco Intl. reported test results on the TGT-2X well on the Te Giac Trang structure on Block 16-1 offshore Vietnam. The well flowed at 17,500 BOEPD.

  • Pearl Energy found a 10-ft gas accumulation with the Makassar Straits-2 exploration well in the Sebuku Production Sharing Contract, located offshore east of Kalimantan, Indonesia.

AUSTRALIA

  • Operator Anzon Australia and Beach Petroleum confirmed a second oil field in the Basker-Manta development in Australia. The Manta-2A well encountered 32.9 m of net oil pay and 29 m of net gas pay. The well tested at 6,370 BOPD and 4.4 MMcf/D of gas.

  • Beach Petroleum and Great Artesian Oil and Gas reported a gas flow of 11 MMcf/D on the Middleton-1 discovery well, located 50 km west of Moomba in the Cooper basin, South Australia.

EUROPE

  • Operator Statoil, Marathon, Gaz de France, and BP reported an oil and gas find on the Gudrun structure in the Sleipner area of the North Sea. Results from Appraisal Well 15/3-8 indicate that the Gudrun structure contains a minimum of 150 million bbl of recoverable oil equivalent.

  • Operator ATP Oil & Gas and Energie Beheer Nederland began first production at the L06d-S1 well in the Dutch Sector of the North Sea. Located in 115 ft of water, the well logged approximately 88 ft of net gas pay.

MIDDLE EAST

  • Operator BP, the Egyptian General Petroleum Corp., and Gulf of Suez Petroleum Co. found an estimated 10 million bbl of oil in the Gulf of Suez. Additionally, Agiba Petroleum Co. discovered 6 million bbl of oil in the West Razzaq Concession of the Western Desert. Production capacity from both discoveries is estimated at 5,000 BOPD.

  • Toreador Resources, Stratic Energy, and TPAQ, the Turkish national oil company, reported a gas find with the Dogu Ayazli-1 exploration well in the Black Sea. With pay intervals totaling more than 60 m, the discovery was drilled approximately 2 miles east of the Ayazli-1 well.

  • Kuwait Oil Co. made its first gas discovery at an onshore field in the northern territory. Gas was found deep (14,200 ft) in the recently designated Umm Niqa field on the UN-001 well.

  • TransGlobe Energy discovered oil on Block 32 in the Republic of Yemen. The Godah No. 1 well tested at 1,839 BOPD and 4.4 MMcf/D of gas. Plans call for a second well to be drilled in the Godah structure approximately 1100 m to the northeast. Additionally, the company reported that the An Nagyah No. 20 well in Block S-1 in the Republic of Yemen tested at 2,992 BOPD and 1,602 Mcf/D of gas.

NORTH AMERICA

  • Operator Nexen, Anadarko, BHP Billiton, and Chevron reported an oil find at the Knotty Head prospect on Green Canyon Block 512 in the Gulf of Mexico (GOM). The discovery well encountered 600 ft of net oil pay in multiple zones.

  • ATP Oil and Gas announced first production at its Mississippi Canyon 711 Gomez project. Located in approximately 3,000 ft of water in the GOM, Gomez contains approximately 100 Bcfe of proved gas reserves.

  • Operator Dominion E&P, Mariner Energy, and Newfield Exploration reported first production from Mississippi Canyon Block 296, and Murphy Oil and Hydro reported first production from Block 299 in the GOM. Combined production from the two fields located in the Rigel and Seventeen Hands fields is 160 MMcf/D of gas.

  • Petsec Energy made its fourth commercial gas discovery on the Main Pass 18 G-6 well during a four-well drilling program at Main Pass 18 and 19 in the GOM. The four wells have met the mapped potential of 15 to 18 Bcfe of gas.

SOUTH AMERICA

  • Petrolifera Petroleum reported one of the biggest oil finds in Argentina since the 1990s. The Puesto Morales/Rinconada Concession in Neuquen province has reserves estimated at 21.1 million bbl of oil and 12.8 Bcf of gas.

  • Enap, Chile’s state oil company, discovered a gas field in the Lago Mercedes basin of Magallanes Region XII. The project includes construction of three parallel 18-in.-diameter pipelines stretching 123 km from the Lago Mercedes field to Enap’s Cullen plant in Tierra del Fuego.

  • Antrim Energy reported test results on the Los Patos 1003 well, the fourth well in the company’s multiwell drilling program in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. The well tested at approximately 9.5 MMcf/D of gas. A longer-term flow test at Los Patos 1002 yielded 72 MMcf over a 4.8-day period, with flow rates reaching 23.8 MMscf/D. The Los Flamencos 1001a well tested at similar rates. Drilling has begun on the Las Violetas 107 well, the fifth well in the drilling program.

  • Solana Resources completed the Guariquies 1 well in the Middle Magdalena basin in Colombia. The well, testing at 982 BOPD, is part of a program in which 10 more wells will be drilled within 18 months.
