Senior executives and some of the most respected technical experts in the industry, both from Russia and worldwide, will take part in SPE’s first Russian Oil and Gas Technical Conference and Exhibition, to be held 3–6 October in Moscow. The theme of the conference is “Technology for World-Class Resources” and will feature four days of plenary sessions, roundtables, and high-level technical presentations, in addition to an exhibit.
The conference will feature participation by some of the world’s most important national oil companies, majors, and service providers, as well as the leading firms in the Russian oil and gas industry. More than 530 abstracts were submitted for consideration, with 202 accepted for presentation. Companies that will present at the conference come from 19 different countries, including Russia, the U.S., the U.K., Norway, The Netherlands, China, Canada, Australia, Malaysia, and the United Arab Emirates. Companies represented on the executive committee include RITEK, ExxonMobil Russia, Wintershall AG, TNK-BP, Chevron, Sibneft, Slavneft, ConocoPhillips, Degolyer and MacNaughton, Moscow State U., Surgutneftegas, Shell, Tatneft, Total, Rosneft, Gazprom, PetroAlliance, Halliburton, and Schlumberger.
The event will highlight the vast natural resources within Russia, significant technical innovations and solutions created within the country for the industry, and the latest technologies being applied worldwide. The conference, which will be held at the Crocus Expo in Moscow, will be conducted using simultaneous translation. The chairperson of the conference executive committee is Valery Grayfer, Chairman of the Board of Directors of JSC Lukoil and General Director of JSC RITEK OJSC Lukoil. The chairperson of the program committee is Iskander Diyashev, Chief Engineer for Sibneft Oil. “All the conference abstracts that have been submitted are extremely interesting, and all types of companies are represented, including many of the world’s largest operating companies and service companies,” Diyashev said. “Based upon what we have received, this will be an outstanding and very successful conference in Moscow.” An emphasis is on applications of technology “that are fit for purpose in the development of a world-class industry,” he said.

Plenary sessions will be held each day. The lineup includes: The Role of Russia in the World’s Energy Balance, chaired by Grayfer; Case Studies of Unique and Giant Fields; a roundtable debate featuring academics from Russia and the international academic community; and Legends of the Oil and Gas Industry, which will honor some of the Russian industry’s most respected names in E&P and beyond. The exhibition will feature approximately 200 companies from around the world in numerous product and service categories.
Russia has seen solid growth in its oil and gas industry as well as in the Society’s membership. SPE now has six active sections operating in Russia—Moscow, Tomsk, Western Siberia, Sakhalin, Nizhnevartovsk, and Volga—and has put on several Applied Technology Workshops in the country.
