Regional Update

AFRICA

  • Apache Corp. discovered gas with the Kahraman B-22 wildcat well located 18 miles north of the Qasr field in Egypt’s Western Desert. The well tested at 16 MMcf/D of gas and 486 B/D of condensate.
  • Peak Petroleum Industries Nigeria and Equator Exploration reported that appraisal well Bilabri D3 encountered gas pay zones. The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 2555 m.
  • Operator Lundin Petroleum and Sinochem commenced oil production from the Oudna field offshore Tunisia. Initial production is approximately 8,000 BOPD gross and is forecast to increase to 20,000 BOPD.

ASIA

  • Operator Total and Inpex announced a gas discovery between the Tunu and Peciko fields in the offshore Mahakam Block in Indonesia. The Tunu Great South-1 well was drilled in shallow waters and encountered a number of gas reservoirs.
  • China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) discovered a gas field in northeastern Bohai Bay, Jinzhou 31-6-1. The well, located in approximately 28 m of water, tested at 1.7 MMcf/D. CNOOC also brought the Wei Zhou 6-1 oil field on stream. The field is located in the western South China Sea.

AUSTRALIA

  • Operator Chevron, Texaco, and Shell made a gas discovery with the Clio-1 exploration well, located 90 miles offshore northwestern Australia in Permit WA-205-P. The well encountered 623 ft of net gas sands.
  • Operator Beach Petroleum and Cooper Energy commenced production from the Callawonga-1 well, located in PEL 92 in the South Australian Eromanga basin.
  • Operator Arc Energy and Origin Energy reported test results on the Eremia 6 well in the onshore Perth basin Production License L1. The well flowed at 3,790 BOPD.

EUROPE

  • Total reported two gas discoveries and one oil discovery in the Alwyn area of the U.K. North Sea, 160 km east of the Shetland Islands and 440 km northeast of Aberdeen. The Jura West 3/15-10 well encountered a pay zone of more than 300 m, and the 3/9a-N50 well encountered 85 m of gas/condensate pay and 60 m of oil pay.
  • Operator Norsk Hydro, ExxonMobil, Statoil, Idemitsu, and Gaz de France began oil and gas production from the Fram East field located north of the Troll area of the North Sea. The field is expected to increase oil production from the Troll C platform by 50,000 BOPD.
  • Operator Wintershall and Black Rock Oil & Gas encountered a gross Carboniferous reservoir interval of approximately 60 m with the Monterey 49/8c-4 appraisal well. The well is located in the Southern Gas basin of the U.K. North Sea.
  • Operator Hydro, Petoro, Statoil, Total, ExxonMobil, and ConocoPhillips found oil with the 30/9-B-19 A well drilled from the Oseberg B platform. This is the third recent find in the Oseberg area.

MIDDLE EAST

  • Operator Oil and Natural Gas Corp., Indian Oil Corp., and Oil India struck oil with three wells in the Farsi Block of Iran.
  • National Iranian Oil Co. found oil and gas in the southwestern province of Khuzestan, Iran, in the Khami layer of the Ahvaz field. The field is located 60 km southwest of the Ahvaz, the capital of Khuzestan Province.
  • DNO reported test results on the Tawke No. 2 well in northern Iraq. The well flowed at a rate of 3,840 BOPD.
  • Indago Petroleum, Eagle Energy, and LG Intl. reported test results on the West Bukha-2A well, located in Block 8 offshore Oman. The well flowed at 6,000 BOPD and 16.9 MMcf/D of gas from a 60-m interval.

NORTH AMERICA

  • Petsec Energy discovered gas on the Mobile Bay 950 well in the Gulf of Mexico. The No. 1 well encountered 34 ft of net pay in two sands.
  • Calgary’s Gentry Resources Ltd. drilled a discovery well in the Pekisko formation within the Princess exploration area of southern Alberta that encountered a net pay interval of 12 m within a gross pay column of 40 m. The discovery well is 8 miles south of Gentry’s existing Tilley-to-West Tide Lake Pekisko oil site.

SOUTH AMERICA

  • Statoil and Total found 7 Tcf of gas in Block 4 of the Plataforma Deltana, an offshore area in Venezuelan waters southeast of Trinidad.
  • Gold Oil encountered approximately 250 ft of pay with the San Alberto-1X Gold well drilled in the Block XXI license in Peru.
  • Operator BHP Billiton, Talisman, Anadarko, Petrotrin, and Total reported results on the Ruby-1 exploration well drilled offshore Trinidad. The well encountered an interval of approximately 1,200 ft of gross pay and tested at 5,000 BOPD.
