Regional Update

AFRICA

  • Pioneer Natural Resources made its fifth discovery on its operated Jenein Nord Block in Tunisia. On the basis of wireline logs and downhole sampling, the Farrah discovery well will be perforated and tested in three intervals totaling 20 m.
  • Bowleven completed the testing of its D-1 exploration well located in Block MLHP 5 of the Etinde Permit in the Douala basin, offshore Cameroon. The well was targeting a Miocene turbidite channel prospect. The well tested both gas and condensate from interbedded high-quality sands over a measured interval of 75 ft and flowed at 25 MMcf/D of gas and 1,400 B/D of condensate.
  • Regal Petroleum reported that Apache East Ras Budran, operator of the East Ras Budran concession in Egypt, spudded the ERB-A-1X exploration well. Regal owns a 25% working interest in the concession, which covers an area of 521 km2 in the Gulf of Suez. The ERB-A-1X well is one of two wells to be drilled in 2007 as part of the first-phase exploration work program. The well is planned to penetrate prospective reservoirs in the Thebes limestone and will be drilled to 13,622 ft.
  • Tullow Oil reported that the Mahogany-1 exploration well on the West Cape Three Points license offshore the Republic of Ghana discovered light oil on the basis of results of drilling, wireline logs, and samples of reservoir fluid. The well was drilled to 3683 m and encountered a hydrocarbon column of 270 m with 95 m of net staked pay. It is planned to drill to approximately 4200 m to test further prospective horizons.
  • Statoil and Sonatrach discovered gas at a second onshore exploration well at the Hassi Mouina license in the Sahara in Algeria. The second well drilled, Hassi Tidjerane West 1, follows the drilling of Hassi Tidjerane 2 that tested at flow rates of 7083 and 9012 m3/h at 1113 to 1129 m.
  • Noble Energy made a discovery on Block I offshore Equatorial Guinea. Well I-1, which was testing the Benita prospect, encountered an extremely high quality Miocene reservoir containing 135 ft of net hydrocarbon pay. Production tests from the well yielded flow rates of 1,038 B/D of condensate and 34.3 MMcf/D of gas. The I-1 well, located in 2,880 ft of water and 25 miles east of Bioko Island, was drilled 10,460 ft. It is approximately 13 miles south of the Belinda discovery, located in Block O.
  • Addax Petroleum discovered oil and gas in the Ofrima North structure and gas in the Udele West structure. Both structures are located in OML137, offshore Nigeria. The Ofrima-2 exploration well, drilled on the Ofrima North structure, encountered three gas-bearing intervals with individual gross gas columns of 29, 43, and 158 ft. The Ofrima-2 well is located 80 km west of the Okwori field and 15 km from the Agbara field. A second exploration well, the Udele-2, was drilled on the Udele West structure and discovered seven gas-bearing intervals with individual gross gas columns of between 41 and 113 ft. The Udele-2 well is located 32 km southeast of the Ofrima-2 well.

ASIA

  • PTTEP reported that the Zawtika-5 appraisal well reach a total depth of 2527 m and encountered seven zones of gas-bearing formation with a total thickness of 100.5 m. The flow-rate tests were conducted on two zones indicating maximum gas-flow rates of approximately 38.36 and 33.12 MMcf/D. The combined flow rate of the two zones is 71.48 MMcf/D. PTTEP is operator of Block M9 and holds a 100% stake in the block. The block is located in the Gulf of Mataban approximately 300 km south of Yangon.
  • Provident Indonesia Energy reported gas and condensate flow from its Bayan-A field, in the island of Tarakan in east Kalimantan. The company drilled a well in the field to 10,000 ft and identified a number of reservoirs that may contain hydrocarbons.
  • Japan Petroleum Exploration confirmed production of gas and oil at its offshore test well in Niigata prefecture in northeastern Japan. The company reported output of 124 000 m3/d of gas and 302 B/D of crude oil from the test well approximately 30 km north-east of Niigata City.
  • Eni reported gas discoveries in Pakistan. Eni’s Tajjal 1 exploration well reached gas within the Gambat exploration license, in Sindh Province. The exploration well was drilled south of the Sawan producing field, reaching a total depth of 3845 m and encountering gas at different sand levels. Eni also drilled the Kadanwari 18 well, finding a gas-bearing formation at a depth of approximately 3400 m. The Latif 1 exploration well reached a total depth of 3520 m and encountered three hydrocarbon layers. This discovery is located close to the Kadanwari producing field, operated by Eni.

EUROPE

  • Matra Petroleum spudded the Horvatkut-1 well. The well is located on the Inke concession in southwest Hungary and is the first of a two-well exploration program on the Inke concession operated by Matra with a 40% working interest. The well is expected to reach a total depth of 1750 m, testing three potential reservoir targets.
  • Faroe Petroleum reported the start of gas production from the Minke Main gas field in the southern North Sea. The Minke Main field is located in the UK southern gas basin approximately 25 km east of the producing Caister-Murdoch gas fields and 13 km southwest of the D15 platform in the Butch sector.

NORTH AMERICA

  • Petsec Energy spudded the CL&F No. 28-1 well in the Hollywood AVO trend prospects. The Hollywood AVO trend prospects are located 110 km southwest of New Orleans in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana. The proposed total depth of the well is 14,360 ft. Petsec has a 23.53% working interest in the well.
  • Helix Energy Solutions’ subsidiary, Energy Resource Technology, made a second discovery in Garden Banks Block 506, approximately 145 miles offshore Galveston, Texas, in 2,700 ft of water in the Gulf of Mexico. The 100% owned and operated Danny exploratory well confirmed the presence of high-quality oil.
