10-11 March 2008
Villahermosa, Tabasco,

The purpose of this workshop is to illustrate the value and create an awareness of geoscience methods for improving reservoir characterization and performance simulation. From micro- to megascales, the presentations in this workshop will show how to use such data in developing reservoir models.
The goal of this workshop is to bring together operators and service companies as well as academic and nonacademic research entities to collaborate and learn from one another. The emphasis of the workshop is to familiarize the practicing community with the latest advances and technologies for the use of geoscience methods in reservoir characterization.
In the last decade, the geoscience discipline has contributed much to our understanding of flow in porous media and our interpretation of reservoir performance. This workshop seeks to provide the maximum value of geoscience data and processes — specifically, via the integration of multiscale reservoir data with reservoir simulation (i.e.,numerical modeling). This workshop will explore how the current key and emerging technologies in the geosciences can add value to reservoir characterization by providing a vision of future practices and challenges for the analysis of reservoir performance. Attendees will be provided case history examples as well as technical descriptions of processes and methodologies for maximizing the value of reservoir data as these data pertain to reservoir characterization and reservoir simulation.
This 2-day workshop includes the follow theme-based technical sessions:
This workshop uses oral presentations to cover the topics given above. Although no formal paper(s) will be published, a summary document for publication will be prepared by the workshop leadership. This document will include highlighted technologies and practices discussed, along with the conclusions of the workshop and any consensus recommendations.
The SPE/AMGE Joint Workshop program is content-driven and emphasizes recent experiences and practices. Participants and presenters are encouraged to speak openly and candidly about the issues. The emphasis of this workshop is on sharing expertise and experiences. While not required, presenters are strongly encouraged to provide public versions of their materials for distribution to the participants.
The workshop is a limited-attendance meeting for 75–100 people and has been designed for practicing professionals who work directly or indirectly in any of the following areas:
