19:00 -- Welcome Reception and Dinner

Monday 24 March

0900 - 1230

Session 1 -- Capital Projects Execution Challenges

High energy demand coupled with high energy prices are forcing oil companies to evolve long term strategies and visions to address future production targets, fiscal requirements, health, safety & environment compliance, maintenance improvisation, and replacement of existing plants and facilities. This is leading to unprecedented capital spending that requires a quantum shift in the way we execute capital projects. Bringing uniformity in project execution globally, standardizing the design, automating the planning and procurement processes, and focusing on the portfolio of projects, rather than a single project, are some of the themes to be addressed. This session is designed to take stock of the recently executed project performances deterioration and bring forth the advantages of new methodologies being applied while addressing hard core issues of capital projects: budgeting, cost estimation, contract strategies, and most importantly, achieving on-time completion.

1400 - 1730

Session 2 -- Resource Constraints

The Human Resource Departments of regional oil and gas producers face one of the biggest challenges they have encountered in recent years. The pool of engineers vital for the whole industry is getting older and the existing population is not satisfying the ongoing expansion. The consequence is that there is a lot of pressure on the industry to replace the existing recruitment programs to cope with recent developments. In addition, an educational service is essential to bring the best academic and industrial knowledge to improve, develop, and sustain the existing industry workforce.

On the other hand, lack of materials and equipment to execute these projects on schedule is another challenge. Contractors, companies, and consultants are required to work side by side to optimize all the available resources to minimize these obstacles and deliver projects that meet the industry’s expectation.

Tuesday 25 March

0900 - 1230

Session 3 -- Advancement in Field Intelligence and its Impact on Capital Projects

The Intelligent Field or the digital field is the industry trend that enables the continuous monitoring and optimization of reservoir performance, wells, and surface facilities. Successful implementation of intelligent fields depends on the following essential factors:

  • Fit-for-purpose surface and subsurface instrumentation
  • The delivery of reliable quality data from the field to the professional’s desktop
  • Development and uses of applications and tools for further analysis and optimization

This session will draw on the industry’s intelligent field accumulated knowledge and experience, and will provide insight on how companies are developing and implementing intelligent fields. Furthermore, the session will stimulate discussion on intelligent field technologies, development, integration and implementation challenges, highlighting current and potential opportunities.

1400 - 1730

Session 4 -- New Technology Implementation for Capital Projects

In this highly charged environment of high demand and high price of energy, oil and gas field development and associated capital project spending require innovative approaches to achieve complete, effective, and quick evacuation of reservoirs. Advancement in horizontal and deviated well drilling technology has opened up the avenues to use comparatively very small surface areas and construct Pad/Cluster/Mini GOSP. Multi-phase fluids are transported long distances and in some cases inline separation are carried out, to further reduce the capital and schedule intensive facilities requirement. This session is designed to bring forth the industry experience in advanced production methods and flow assurances challenges, essentially to simplify, reduce and optimize facility requirement to achieve faster and quicker delivery of the upstream field development capital projects.

Wednesday 26 March

0900 - 1230 hours

Session 5 -- Industry Predictions / Forecasts

This wrap up session of the workshop is designed to provide the latest capital project spending and future forecast data with trends to remind us of the stark reality of the ever increasing capital projects cost & schedule escalations. The industry is monitoring the project escalation indexes of key spending and predicting the trends but the volatility in the currency market coupled with scarcity of manpower and material is proving all predictions to be wrong. In this environment, greater need is felt to share the individual experiences and explore the common grounds, to be prudent, and most importantly, to take measures and account for uncertainties scientifically for successful completion of capital projects.
