Water Management in the Oil Industry

6-9 April 2008
Bali, Indonesia

Register online or by mail or fax until 31 March

As the world is now consuming more than 1000 barrels of crude oil per second, corresponding water production from petroleum reservoirs is now estimated at more than 180 Million barrels of water per day based on a 2:1 ratio. The compelling need to develop advanced water production control and handling technologies challenges the petroleum industry as a whole.

These challenges are not solely in the quest to find low cost methods to reduce the water handling expenditures and minimize environmental impact, but they also reflect the need for development of specific, integrated engineering solutions to effectively decrease unwanted water production, manage associated problems stemming from produced water, increase oil and gas production, and improve long-term hydrocarbon recovery.

This workshop will serve as a platform for combining the various and scattered elements of effective water production control and handling technologies, as well as to provide participants with a basis to develop their own best practices and proactively prepare water management roadmaps for their respective operations.

Workshop Focus

The focus of this workshop will be to address the challenges associated with water management in the oil industry throughout the world, how these are currently addressed and what new technologies are being employed to combat the increasing challenges. The workshop agenda is expected to include the following areas for discussion:

  • Worldwide experiences and challenges in water management
  • Combined downhole and surface water management
  • Reservoir water production and control
  • Downhole water control
  • Impact of water production on well integrity and performance challenges
  • Surface water handling
  • Transportation and disposal
  • New challenges in deepwater

Workshop Objectives and Deliverables

The workshop will provide excellent networking opportunities for technology exchange together with a sharing of information on “Lessons Learned” and “Best Practices”. The workshop will be conducted in an interactive format, with a number of short presentations and breakout discussions. To reach this objective participants are expected to actively participate in discussions. Also individuals and organisations are encouraged to contribute in presenting their case studies (successes, failures, and lessons learnt) and other experiences for discussion.

Who Should Attend

This workshop is designed for multidisciplinary professionals in the oil and gas industry (reservoir engineers; production engineers; production technologists; completion engineers; drilling engineers; facilities engineers; operations staffs, well services staffs; senior management; and researchers).
