SPE Workshop: Women Professionals in the Energy Sector

In follow up to the SPE workshop on “Women in Engineering, Science and Technology”, held in Bahrain, March 2007, SPE will offer a one-day workshop on 2 November for attendance by both men and women, entitled: “Women Professionals in the Energy Sector: How to Weave Science and Technology in a Matrix of Defined Cultural and Social Roles.”

With support from key regional and international E&P players such as Shell, ADCO, ExxonMobil, Saudi Aramco, ADMA-OPCO, Landmark, BAPCO, BP, ADNOC and Schlumberger, the workshop will focus discussions on current issues including

  • Challenges and prospectives on women professionals in the energy industry
  • Women in a technical world
  • Empowerment through mentoring and knowledge sharing
  • Work-life balance: an achievable outcome or myth?
  • Where do women stand today?

Objectives of the workshop are to:

  • Promote the image of women in the workplace and to participate in shaping the future of our industry
  • Encourage, motivate, and develop skills of young professionals
  • Create a women’s professional network that is recognised and endorsed by management, and is successful and sustainable
  • Discuss the many challenges faced by women, and deliver recommendations that create an environment where women feel involved, respected and connected with their peers and where richness of their ideas, backgrounds, and capabilities are harnessed to promote continuous personal and professional development.
