Plenary Session Presentations and Audience Poll Results

The following plenary session presentations provide the results from audience polls taken at the IADC/ SPE Drilling Conference. The audience was asked questions on a variety of "hot topics" pertaining to each session. If you have any questions related to these presentations, please contact Cindy Madding at cmadding@spe.org.

Tuesday Plenary Session

Operating Cost: Validation, Consequences, and Solutions
Moderated by Paul Goodfellow, the panelists discussed the impact of cost increases throughout the supply chain and debated whether the industry should be concerned simply with cost or the service quality level associated with those costs. Panelists also addressed potential solutions to the broader issues that have influenced the cost increases.

Wednesday Plenary Session

Technology: The Key to Finding and Producing Difficult Hydrocarbons
Moderated by Charles Williams, the panelists presented and discussed the latest technologies for discovering and producing difficult-to-find hydrocarbons. Topics included the need for higher operating efficiencies and expanded capabilities in drilling equipment.

Thursday Plenary Session

Roadmap to the Future: People and Processes
Moderated by Ford Brett, the panelists addressed how to accelerate the competency curve for new hires and develop new processes and methods to sustain employee growth. With more than 120 new offshore rigs joining the drilling fleet in the next 3 years, the growth and replacement plans for drilling contractors, service companies, and operators has never been more crucial.
