PLENARY I
OPERATING COST: VALIDATION, CONSEQUENCES, AND SOLUTIONS

Moderators: Paul Goodfellow, Regional Wells Manager - Americas
Shell E&P Americas

Spiraling costs of oilfield services, excessive downtime, high dayrates, shortages of equipment, services, people, etc. comments that are heard throughout our industry every day, both by the operators and service providers. What has been the impact of these accelerating costs on drilling activity, marginal assets and production, even during a healthy commodity price environment and will they continue to increase? Are we currently in a stable situation between demand and supply quality and quantity?

In this plenary session, we will present and discuss the impact of these cost increases throughout the supply chain. As an industry, are we concerned simply with costs or does the service quality level associated with those costs have a more significant impact? We will also present and discuss the broader issues that have influenced the increase in costs for drilling, producing, construction, services and manpower and ask what are the solutions. Does technology have a role to play or do we simply need to get supply and demand back in balance after a period of increasing demand and a lagging supply situation.

Panelists: William Coates, President North America, Schlumberger
Michael Holly, Executive Vice President, Celerant Consulting
Stuart Ferguson, Senior VP & Chief Technology Officer, Weatherford International
Kevin Neveu, CEO, Precision Drilling Corporation
Kevin Carey, General Manager - Deepwater & Complex Wells, Chevron
