PANEL 11: HEALTH RISK ASSESSMENTS: DO YOU DO THEM?

Session Chairpersons: Clarion Johnson, ExxonMobil
Gary Krieger, Newfields

Panel Description

The aim of a health risk assessment is to identify health hazards, evaluate their risks to health, and determine appropriate control measures. It is essential that a systematic approach be used to evaluate the potential for individual harm and protect against any adverse exposure. The health risk assessment must be fully embedded into the HSE-management system in order to be effective.

This panel session will discuss the experiences of a number of companies with regards to health risk assessments, as well as some of the methods and tools used to conduct these assessments.

PANEL 14: MARINE MAMMALS AND SOUND

Session Chairpersons: Pat O'Brien, Chevron
Mike Stephenson, M. T. Stephenson & Associates

Panel Description

External stakeholders, particularly NGOs in North America, have manifested their strong concern about the impact that sound from the oil and gas industry's activities allegedly has on marine mammals, arguing that it poses an increasing threat to the already endangered marine mammal populations. They are asking for stricter control and restrictions from the oil industry, which could make operations difficult or impossible in some cases. What are the points of view, and how is the industry responding to this challenge?
