SPE is working to improve its peer review processes and performance. For more information, read this message from the Editor-in-Chief, Yannis Yortsos.
SPE uses an online peer review system that is completely web-based, and designed for manuscript submission, review, and tracking through to final editorial decision. The system speeds the review process by linking authors, reviewers, and SPE staff into one workspace and offers authors and reviewers instant access to manuscript information.
Each year, SPE recognizes those members of the Editorial Review Committee who have made an exceptional effort to ensure the technical excellence of the Society's journals. These members receive the Outstanding Technical Editor Award during SPE's Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition.
SPE further recognizes those members of the Editorial Review Committee who achieve the milestone of reviewing 100 or more papers as "A Peer Apart." Over time, these dedicated individuals have devoted hundreds of hours to assuring the high quality of SPE's technical journals.
Volunteer to Become a Technical Editor
When a paper is submitted for peer review, it is assigned to reviewers with appropriate technical expertise. Reviewers/Technical Editors need to have the following qualifications:
- Past technical accomplishments
- Credibility
- Visibility
- Significant research record
- Participation in symposia, conferences, and seminars
- Prior publication in a peer-reviewed journal
Reviewers do not have to be SPE members if they meet the other requirements and have applicable expertise.
To cover the breadth of topics within the E&P industry, SPE welcomes volunteers to participate as reviewers. Complete and submit the technical editor application. SPE, or the editor of the appropriate journal, may follow-up with a request for additional information, including a resume/vitae or list of prior publications.
