Peer Review

Peer-review is an important part of SPE's mission as a technical society. SPE's technical journals publish papers that have been peer-reviewed, providing readers with the best technical solutions available.

How does peer review work?

The peer review process is anonymous, and is designed to provide fairness, objectivity, timeliness and relevance to the review of papers destined for the permanent literature.

What makes a paper a good candidate for peer review?

Peer review is intended to identify papers that make significant, new contributions to the state of industry knowledge and technology.  Many papers may be excellent, yet still not good candidates for peer review.

What is the Editorial Review Committee?

More than 800 volunteer technical editors review papers for inclusion in SPE journals. Those who have reviewed 100+ papers are recognized as members of A Peer Apart.

How can I submit a paper for peer review?

While most papers submitted to peer review come from SPE meetings, unsolicited manuscripts are also accepted.  Learn what you need to do to submit your paper for peer review.
