Strategic Surveillance: Cost-Effective Options
There is a growing consensus that the current low oil and gas prices would prevail for at least the next several years. It is also widely acknowledged that most options for obtaining indirect information for managing surface or sub-surface operations involve significant direct and/or indirect costs as well as, risks. Critical questions are then of identifying ‘strategic’ information to be obtained and, justifying choices for any surveillance options regarding their costs and risks. This one day seminar introduces various surveillance concepts, options and ways of examining their cost-effectiveness based on several case studies.
Some of the information could be strategic and lead to modification of operations via identification of improvement opportunities or of imminent threats. Therefore, surveillance operations are continued until their marginal value is greater than corresponding marginal costs.

Some prior exposure to water flooding and, Enhanced Oil Recovery would be very useful in following discussions during this one day seminar.

Dr. Ashok K. Singhal, an expert in EOR technologies and horizontal well applications, is the principal consultant with Premier Reservoir Engineering Services, where he provides consulting and training in EOR. He has more than 35 years of worldwide oil and gas experience in heavy oil and tar sand reservoir engineering, horizontal well technology, CO2 flooding, thermal EOR, and waterflood projects. He has lectured on EOR, horizontal well applications, and other topics around the world.
Dr. Singhal is an engineering alumnus of the Indian School of Mines and the University of Alberta, Edmonton. He earned a Ph.D. degree in petroleum engineering from the University of California and later taught chemical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology and petroleum engineering at the University of Alberta.
