OTC Names Winners of Spotlight on New Technology Awards
The Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) selected 15 new technologies for its 2019 Spotlight on New Technology Awards. The annual awards program recognizes innovative technologies and allows companies to showcase the latest advances in offshore exploration and production.
Awards recipients were chosen on the basis of the following criteria:
- The technology must be less than 2 years old and offered to the marketplace less than 2 years before the award application date. If previously advertised at OTC, it must not have been displayed at more than one conference. The technology must be original and groundbreaking, and must not infringe on any known patents.
- The technology must be proven, either through full-scale application or successful prototype testing.
- The technology must be of broad interest and appeal for the industry.
- The technology must provide significant benefits beyond those of existing technologies.
OTC also awarded three Spotlight on New Technology Small Business Awards for companies with fewer than 300 employees.
Active Control Device
The Active Control Device provides the prerequisite seal and diversion of annular wellbore returns using a novel, nonrotating device enabled by an actively pressurized, comolded element. This purpose-built device eliminates the bearings and rotating components that are a regular source of maintenance and failure in conventional rotating control devices.
DuraStim Hydraulic Fracturing Pump
The DuraStim 6,000-hp hydraulic fracturing pump is the industry’s first variable-displacement fracturing pump. Built for the extreme demands of long-duration, high-pressure fracturing, the DuraStim lowers the cost of ownership dramatically, improves operational performance, and creates safety and environmental advantages.
Baker Hughes, a GE Company (BHGE)
NovaLT16 Gas Turbine
The NovaLT16 is a double-shaft gas turbine designed for mechanical-drive and power-generation applications in the small power range (5–20 MW) segment. Used in both on- and offshore applications, the NovaLT16 provides optimal performance through maximized availability, high fuel efficiency, low maintenance, and reduced emissions.
Double Expansion XPak Liner Hanger
The industry-first Double Expansion XPak Liner Hanger system eliminates the need for fixed landing profiles and risk associated with submudline hangers, increases operational flexibility, and provides significant cost savings. The system deploys through wellhead restrictions to provide a metal-to-metal seal within seamed thin-wall casing and offers high hanging, lockdown, and pressure capacities.
FieldAP is the Industry 4.0 cloud-based application enabling digital subsea field planning, subsea data and asset visualization, and installation planning for subsea projects. A FieldTwin platform application, FieldAP enhances collaboration among teams globally while reducing risk. Through digitalization, FieldAP is improving project margins and maximizing investment returns on existing talent.
National Oilwell Varco (NOV)
Subsea Automated Pig Launcher
The NOV Subsea Automated Pig Launcher allows pig launching from subsea to topside and offers a flexible and robust technology that enables a wide range of pigging operations. The system eliminates the need for a second flowline solely for pigging and wax handling, allowing pigging at any time and on demand.
Subsea Pumping Technology
Subsea Pumping Technology (SPT) allows operators to reduce or eliminate their topside footprint by moving chemical storage and injection systems subsea, reducing the cost and complexity of conventional umbilicals. SPT offers value-added contributions to tieback architectures and applications where chemicals are required for operational integrity management or flow-assurance purposes.
OneSubsea, a Schlumberger Company
Vx Omni Subsea Multiphase Flowmeter
The Vx Omni subsea multiphase flowmeter is a compact, highly accurate and reliable flowmeter available in all applications, pressures, and environments for all fluid phases. It provides crucial data to understand how each individual production well is performing, enabling operators to enhance reservoir recovery and facilitate safer operation.
Offset Installation Equipment
The Offset Installation Equipment (OIE) is a remotely operated subsea system designed to allow the positioning of a capping stack onto an erupting subsea well in water depths from 75 to 600 m at the safe stepout distance of 500 m from the support naval spread.
Concert Well Testing Live Performance
The Schlumberger Concert well testing live performance system brings digital automation and communication to well testing by providing the same real-time information and interactive capabilities to all involved. This seamless access and sharing of data, diagnostics, and analysis improves efficiency, data quality, and safety to mitigate uncertainty and achieve actionable test results.
BlueVault Energy Storage
BlueVault is Siemens’ lithium-ion- battery-based energy storage solution that is suited for both all-electric and hybrid (i.e., diesel-electric) power applications. The solution is specifically designed to help ensure continuity of power and minimize emissions on vessels and offshore drilling rigs.
Subsea Power Grid
Siemens’ Subsea Power Grid transforms field developments by extending tiebacks and allowing flexible subsea processing. It features subsea transformers, switchgear, variable-speed drives, wet mate connectors, and a remotely operated control and monitoring system, and is able to power large-scale subsea processing projects.
Stress Engineering Services
Condition-Based Maintenance for Drilling Risers System
Condition-based-maintenance technology provides innovative automation, digitalization, and data-analysis techniques, empowering drilling contractors to make real-time data-driven decisions concerning drilling-riser-asset integrity. The insights it provides focus on safety, identifying measurable risks and managing economics for the drilling contractor, with actionable data providing a health assessment of the asset.
Subsea 2.0 In-Line Compact Robotic Manifold
The Subsea 2.0 In-Line Compact Robotic Manifold challenges traditional manifold designs to improve subsea field economics. The compact manifold design reduces size, weight, and manufacturing cost. It incorporates a robotic arm for valve actuation, can be installed using the same vessel laying the flowline, and increases flexibility over the life of the field.
TR1P Single-Trip Completion System
The TR1P single-trip completion system reduces deepwater completion installation time by up to 60%. By combining the upper and lower completions in one trip, the system reduces personnel risk and increases efficiency. Using radio frequency identification technology, the field-proven system delivers 100% interventionless operation in both producer and injector wells.
Green Pin Tycan Fiber Lifting Chain
Green Pin Tycan is a high-performance fiber lifting chain that has the performance and flexibility of steel chain but is a fraction of the weight. It is waterproof, noncorrosive, and safe and easy to use, allowing company personnel to achieve greater efficiency and a safer working environment.
LITHIUM SERIES II Electric Torque Tool
The LITHIUM SERIES II Electric Torque Tool provides fully redesigned bolting technology with improved durability, usability, and functionality. This lightweight 36-volt battery-powered tool with a capacity of up to 5000 ft-lbs is an optimal solution for strength and portability needs in industrial bolting jobs worldwide.
XACT Ultrasonic Clamp-On Flow Meter
The XACT ultrasonic flow meter provides flow rate and fraction measurement at accuracies that were until now only obtainable by in-line technologies. Installation of the flow meter does not compromise pipeline integrity. Its size and weight are a fraction of conventional flow meter systems, and the flow meter is ideal for retrofit applications.
