Deepak Gala, SPE, was selected as one of Oil and Gas Investor’s 2014 “Twenty Under 40,” published in the magazine’s April issue. This distinction recognizes individuals working in exploration and production who display professional and technical excellence. Gala works at Shell as a subject matter expert on well control engineering and relief well planning. Before joining Shell, he worked for Weatherford and Cudd in various roles with increasing responsibility, starting in January 2005. He has published more than 20 technical papers and coauthored a chapter in SPE’s Advanced Drilling & Well Technology textbook. Gala has chaired the SPEI Young Professional Coordinating Committee and served as associate editor for SPE Drilling and Completions. He has received the SPE Regional Young Engineer of the Year award, the 2010 SPE Young Member Outstanding Service Award, and an SPE Outstanding Technical Editor Award. He currently serves on the SPE Gulf Coast Section board of directors. Gala earned an MS degree in natural gas engineering from Texas A&M University–Kingsville and an MS degree in finance from Tulane University.
