This year’s SPE Student Paper Contest in the Latin American and Caribbean Region will be held 10–11 June, during the 2013 Brasil Offshore Conference in Rio de Janeiro.
The requirements for eligibility in the undergraduate, master, and PhD divisions are:
- A written paper must be submitted in English. The deadline for abstracts is 10 April and for manuscripts 25 April.
- Active SPE membership at the time of application and sole author of the paper.
- If the student is already degreed, it must have happened less than 9 months before the contest.
- The paper must have a minimum of 1,000 words of text. Diagrams and supporting illustrations can be added, and they each count for 250 words. Total content may not exceed 7,000 words.
To be eligible for the prizes, authors must present their papers at the contest; judgment is based on their presentation. Each university or student chapter may participate, with no more than two presentations in each division. The presentation may not exceed 20 minutes; an additional maximum of 10 minutes are allowed for questions from the judges. A slide and overhead projector will be available for use during presentations.
At the time of submission, the presentation/paper must not have been accepted for publication in an SPE peer-reviewed journal; or presented at previous official SPE regional student contests. Papers presented at student presentation/paper contests sponsored by universities, SPE sections, or other organizations are allowed.
