Bakken Shale

Operators in North Dakota’s Bakken Shale have rolled back drilling efforts substantially, retreating from non-core areas, according to Reuters. The number of rigs operating outside core areas has fallen from 17 to 6 since December. The state’s Department of Mineral Resources reported that North Dakota’s total rig count has now fallen below the threshold of “at least 130 rigs” required to keep production steady at the current rate of approximately 1.2 million BOPD.
