Brian Ferguson, president and CEO of Canada-based Cenovus Energy will retire as an officer and director of the company on 31 October. Following his retirement, he will continue in a transition advisor role reporting to the board chair until 31 March 2018. Ferguson has been the head of the company since its launch in 2009, when Encana Corporation split into two distinct companies—Cenovus (oil) and Encana (natural gas). He joined one of Cenovus’ predecessor companies in 1984 and became a member of the management team in 1994. His business experience spans finance, business development, reserves, strategic planning, evaluations, and communications. Ferguson is a member of several boards, including the Business Council of Canada and the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, and was appointed to the federal Minister of Finance’s Advisory Council on Economic Growth. He holds a bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Alberta, and completed the University of Western Ontario's Executive Management program. Ferguson is a fellow of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta.
