Michael K. Wirth (left in picture) was elected chairman of the board and CEO of Chevron Corporation by Chevron’s Board of Directors. He will be appointed 1 February 2018, upon the retirement of John S. Watson from these positions. Wirth is currently the vice chairman of the board, a position he has held since February 2017. He is also the executive vice president of midstream and development and is responsible for supply and trading, shipping, pipeline, and power operating units. Wirth also oversees corporate strategy; business development; and policy, government and public affairs. Before this, he was executive vice president of downstream and chemicals. From 2003 to 2006, he served as president of global supply and trading. In 2001, Wirth was named president of marketing for Chevron’s Asia/Middle East/Africa business, based in Singapore. He also served on the board of directors for Caltex Australia and GS Caltex Corp. in South Korea. Wirth joined Chevron in 1982 as a design engineer and holds a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Colorado. In a related move, Mark A. Nelson (right in picture) will be appointed vice president of midstream, strategy, and policy, effective 1 February 2018. He is currently the vice president of strategic planning. His previous leadership positions include president of international products and president of Chevron Canada. Nelson joined Chevron in 1985 as an engineer and holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from California Polytechnic State University.
