Senex Energy has won the right to develop a new coal-seam gas field in the state of Queensland and said it would make its first delivery from the field within 2 years. That is a speedy timetable designed to meet tight market conditions. Queensland offered the acreage in the Surat Basin for free earlier this year on the condition that its production would supply the country’s east coast market. A tripling in demand for gas from three liquefied natural gas (LNG) export plants is projected to cause a shortage there by 2019. The field is estimated to hold 189.5 Bcf of gas and is close to pipelines. Senex Managing Director Ian Davies called it “development-ready, top tier acreage.”
