Chevron said it was resuming drilling operations in the Kurdistan region of Iraq (KRI) and had restarted drilling at the Sarta 3 field, according to company spokeswoman Sally Jones. Chevron had temporarily suspended KRI operations in October after a controversial independence referendum sparked tensions between Iraq’s leadership in Baghdad and the semiautonomous KRI government. Previously, in September, Chevron drilled an oil well at its Sarta block after a 2-year pause, indicating that company confidence in the area was stabilizing despite controversy over the planned referendum.
