A discovery off the west coast of Bahrain is estimated to hold at least 80 billion bbl of tight oil, which would make it the kingdom’s biggest discovery ever according to its oil minister. The discovery also identified 10 Tcf to 20 Tcf of deep gas resources. The find has been independently appraised by DeGolyer and MacNaughton and Halliburton, and the latter is set to drill two wells this year to better define the resources present. What proportion of those resources will be recoverable has not been determined. The new field is thought to be capable of producing 200,000 B/D of oil, the head of Bahrain’s parliamentary financial and economic committee said.
