Pemex has signed a contract with United States firm Lewis Energy to explore and develop a shale gas deposit in the Eagle Ford formation of northern Mexico. Pemex said it expected the contract, which covers the Olmos field, to yield an investment of $617 million with a goal of reaching approximately 117 MMcf/D of gas production by 2021. Privately held Lewis has previously drilled on behalf of Pemex in the Olmos field, which is located in the state of Coahuila bordering the US.
